- Occlusal-proximal restorations in the posterior region are being fabricated increasingly more frequently using preformed sectional metal matrices
- These matrices are actually very thin and curved to facilitate reconstruction of the anatomical tooth shape
- A matrix retainer is not required for these matrices
- However, they are sensitive, sometimes difficult to insert and even more difficult to remove if they adhere to the composite of the restoration
- The forceps have especially been designed for inserting this type of matrix, but also in particular for removing them and they fulfil the following requirements:
- They have curved working beaks to maintain the anatomical shape of the matrices
- The beaks are thin enough to be able to insert them into the occlusal and proximal embrasures
- The working tips are rigid and have a sure grip to ensure reliable clamping, so that a matrix adhering to the composite material of the restoration can be quickly removed
